The ecological, entertaining and practical “Nati per leggere” itinerant furnishings.

The “Nati per leggere” itinerant furnishings will be presented at Turin’s International Book Fair on Monday 17th May 2010 in the Bookstock Village, Pavilion 5 Lingotto at 6.30 pm.

The choice, naturally, was for an eco-sustainable, simple and easily handled material, and for creations that can be adapted to different situations and personalised environments. A4Adesign, a specialist in cardboard design, created the original and colourful  “Nati per leggere” itinerant  furnishings, an idea sponsored by the Basso Novarese library system and curated by Area Progetti for pre-school-age children and aimed at parents, libraries, paediatricians and schools. And, given the tender age of the users, it called for extra special attention in the creation of the single pieces of furniture.

Having already worked with schools, foundations and training and teaching institutes, A4Adesign devised and created  nomadic, whimsical, light yet solid pieces which can be easily assembled and taken apart by children.  A kit with the “Nati per Leggere” trademark consists of  tables and chairs for adults and children and pocket-poufs which can be placed as desired or put together to create amphitheatre or snaking shapes.  Then there are bookshelf modules, boxes for displaying and transporting books,  stage sets and decorations,  play houses,  trees and butterflies.  All in A4Adesign’s signature recycled and recyclable cardboard.

The creations respect entertainment and educational requirements and volumes are reduced for shipping and for simple and fast assembly.  All the materials come in flat-packs, cutting down on assembly times – they are interlocking becoming a fun game – and can be easily dismantled, stored and transported.

A4Adesign is at home with these materials as all its projects evoke a dreamlike and fantastic world, a children’s world.  And right from the beginning it has paid special attention to this world with innovative projects for children.  For examples the 2007 “Colore di carta”  exhibition in collaboration with the MUBA (Milan’s children’s museum) and the roving exhibition “Il mondo del libro”, an interactive itinerary created in 2005 with ABCITTÀ and the Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori Foundation.  Then there was the “Piazza d’asporto”, created for children at the 2005 Milan Film Festival, which is as fresh today as the day it was created.
